Picnic Table Pleases Steelhead Fishing Gods

Summer Steelhead at Picnic Table

Summer Steelhead at Picnic Table

April seems to be  my lucky month when it comes to steelhead, so as the month was winding down, I started going in the evenings after work.  On this one such evening, I managed to bribe Paula into coming along with the promise of some ice cream on the way back!  Anyway, it paid off as she brought along the good luck with her!

On the previous weekend, I added fish decorations to my picnic table.

This clearly pleased the fishing gods, who rewarded my artistic efforts with a steelhead!

Here’s how it all went down.

It was a warm spring evening toward the end of April.  I managed to talk Paula into going fishing after work, by promising her ice cream!  I had a few salmon eggs left, but I let Paula use those, since I had already caught a steelhead a few weekends prior. (Lucky Day: Steelhead on First Cast)  Instead, I decided to use some rubbery artificial easy eggs with some ancient shrimp scent on them, to ‘use them up’.

After a while of fishing, Paula used up the last of the real eggs and moved on to rock collecting and picking up fishing line.  I kept fishing when suddenly, WHAM! Fish On!  I shouted over to Paula that I had one on and she ran over and was pretty excited to help bring it in, especially with the fish jumping out of the water and splashing back down!  I brought the fish in, tailed it and tagged it.  It almost seemed like Paula had more of an adrenaline rush from it than I did!

Anyway, we got our fish, then hit Coldstone on the way home and snapped a few pictures before it got too dark!  It doesn’t get any better than that!!
