I went fishing for a few days last week with Paula’s dad, Clark, on the Yaquina and Siletz rivers, but we didn’t have much luck! The weather held up and it was sunny and nice all week. It was excellent weather for nice boat rides. I took a few pictures and posted them, click on them to see more detail.

By Friday, we decided to ditch the boat and try for summer steelhead on the upper Siletz. A few casts in, Clark hooked something, but it shook off about a minute into the fight. Next, I had a brief moment of excitement as a big fish attacked my jig–the water was very clear and I could see the strike–but the fish did not get the hook. Lastly, Clark hooked what appeared to be a jack Chinook salmon, but it managed to spit the hook right at the bank. I was pretty happy that my spinners drew two strikes! Anyway, we’re ready for Winter Steelhead season!
